What is Zip?

Zip is a black and white independent British comic book. It’s written by Mike Scrase, illustrated by San Espina, and lettered by Ferran Delgado, with sensitivity reading by Michelle Swinea.

In addition to main artist San Espina, we also have guest illustrators providing cover art, so far including Vanessa CardinaliMatthew Schofield, Ray Friesen, Giulio Centrella and Francesco Tomaseli.

What is Zip’s synopsis?

Civilisation was never built for superhumans.Yet all the while they have lived within it.

Unnoticed and marginalised, they took to acts of heroism to give themselves a sense of purpose in a society that seemed to have no place for them.

ZIP is among these heroes. Her superior speed makes the rest of the world appear as if it moves in slow motion. It makes fighting crime easy, but living a normal life a desperate dream.

In her care lives her ancient ancestor: a genius who achieved immortal life long ago – but at the price of having his mind broken.

Zip shoulders the burden of knowing that the only way to end his suffering is to find a way to kill him: but can it be done? And what if his secret for eternal life should fall into the wrong hands?

How long is each issue of Zip?

An individual issue of Zip tends to be between 22-31 pages long, with issue #1 being 22 pages long, and issue #2 being 23 pages long, issue #3 being 27 pages long, and issue #4 being 31 pages long.

What Ages is this Zip comic appropriate for?

Comics no longer have a formal ratings board, and so publishers generally come up with their own age ratings. This means there isn’t a standardised rating system for comics.

With that said, we’d suggest Zip for ages 12 and up. It contains dark themes, martial arts action, and science fiction violence.

We welcome the feedback of parents to help us form an accurate description of the comic’s appropriate audience.

If you’re a parent and would like to share your thoughts on this, you can do so by leaving us a review on Amazon.

Where can I read Zip?

Print issues of Zip are sold at Mike’s Comics, St Nicholas Market, Bristol.

When new issues of Zip are produced, we crowdfund them through kickstarter.com, where our backers can receive rewards for their support including digital and physical copies of the comic.

For more information on Kickstarter and how it works, there’s also a comprehensive guide to it right here on zipcomic.co.uk.

Are there differences between the Zip comics available on Kickstarter vs the ones published by Markosia available at Amazon?

Other than some small changes to indicia, cover text and non-story content, the comic remains the same and backer acknowledgements are still included.

A digital Zip comic which was part of a Kickstarter pledge reward is sent directly to backers in the form of a multipage PDF.

The Markosia digital version of the comic is an eBook, reabable with a Kindle E-Reader, Kindle Fire Tablet, or on your computer/tablet/smartphone with a free Kindle Reading app.

Can I get a physical copies of individual Zip comics anywhere?

Because Markosia do not distribute print comics which are under 40 pages long, print versions of individual Zip issues are self published by Mike Scrase. You can get them:

How many issues of Zip comics are there?

At the moment four issues of Zip have been successfully crowdfunded with the support of loyal readers.
Check our ‘issues’ page for more details on existing installments.

Can I buy a physical collection of Zip comics in trade paperback/graphic novel format anywhere?

In an ideal scenario Zip is intended as an ongoing series. But for ease of reader consumption, we have plans to divide the story into arcs, of roughly 6-8 issues long.

As the series currently has had four successfully funded issues, our first arc is underway!

When it is finished, it is likely that the debut arc will be collected in trade paperback/graphic novel format in some form. This is almost certainly going to be available via a future Kickstarter campaign, but may also be distributed by our publisher Markosia as well.

While the prospects are exciting, it’s too early to say where a Markosia distributed Zip graphic novel collection might be sold.

But, your support on Kickstarter and preorders of our digital comics on Amazon can only help expand the scope of possibilities.

Who prints the Kickstarter exclusive print copies of Zip’s individual issues?

Zip’s Kickstarter physical rewards are printed in the UK by Stuart Lloyd Gould.

How will my Kickstarter rewards be fulfilled?

When you back a Zip Kickstarter campaign, Kickstarter will ask you which reward tier you would like and you will see a number of options for rewards you can get for backing.

Each reward tier will have an estimated delivery date listed just under the title of the reward tier. When setting our estimated delivery dates, planning takes unexpected delays into account, and so you will probably get your rewards much sooner than the date that’s shown, but that date is a guarantee which you can use to gauge when you should message project creator Mike Scrase about your reward if you haven’t received it.

Once you’ve selected your pledge, Kickstarter will ask you for some details it needs to accept your pledge, like your bank card details. If your pledge includes a physical reward then Kickstarter should ask you to provide a delivery address.

When the campaign is over if there is any additional information we need to get your rewards to you, you’ll be sent a survey asking for the necessary information, along with the other backers who pledged to your reward tier.

This is all information needed to complete your reward fulfilment. You’ll never be asked for marketing information in these surveys: backer privacy is always taken very seriously, both by Kickstarter and the team behind Zip.

Where do I redeem my Kickstarter rewards when they’ve been fulfilled?

The way which you would redeem your rewards varies from one of our campaigns to the next because Kickstarter allows project creators a wide variety of freedom in what they’re allowed to offer their backers.

This means that with each new campaign, we may have added new rewards, combined old rewards together, or discontinued a reward which we previously fulfilled in an older campaign.

But in general, rewards can be divided into digital and physical rewards. Typically the digital rewards which we offer are a digital copy of a Zip comic (or comics). Physical rewards include a print Zip comic(s). Finally we also tend to offer an acknowledgment of your contribution to Zip, but this appears on our website and in the comic itself, and so the way it is delivered is multifaceted.

Which countries do you ship physical Kickstarter rewards to?

Our physical rewards are available across European Union countries in addition to the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Now do I collect my digital Kickstarter rewards?

If you chose a reward tier with a digital-only comic or comics, then they’ll be sent to you via either a Google Drive link or directly to your email address, in the from of a multi-page PDF document.

How do I collect my physical/print Kickstarter rewards?

If you chose a reward including print comics, then your reward items will be sent to you via Royal Mail if you live within the UK, or via Royal Mail first of all, then via international and local postal services, depending on your location.

Where can I see my Kickstarter pledge acknowledged?

Backer acknowledgements are printed within the pages of Zip comics themselves, in the relevant issue associated with the campaign which received the backer’s pledge.

This is displayed in both digital and physical copies of Zip (including the ones that Markosia sells on Amazon).
Acknowledgements are also displayed on zipcomic.co.uk here.
