Our New Issue: The True Story of a Murder with a Sci-Fi Twist

Our latest issue is live on Kickstarter! This instalment is a time travel story based on the real-life testimonies of a murderer.

My Inspiration

Years ago, I read an article in a newspaper about an ex-con, pleading with teenagers not to fall into the trap of knife crime, after having served a life sentence for his involvement in a fatal stabbing.

I used quotes from this article and the perspective of the former prisoner being interviewed to write the script for our new issue – adding my own style by injecting a sci-fi twist into the mix.

Black and white comic art. A bald, middle aged man confronting a hooded teenager in an alleyway. Text reads, Man: quote, GIVE ME THE KNIFE! end quote. Teen, quote: Hope it you weirdo! End quote. Man, quote: talk tough all you want, but you end up killing someone and you'll regret it. You think your friends'll still care, a year after you've been to prison? Trust me, they won't. End quote. Teen, quote: I ain't gonna kill you, just cut you if you don't move yourself. End quote.

The story

Pinstripe and Dogsbody are up to something strange again: their latest experiment is to unlock one of the most elusive technologies in human imagination: time travel!

Meanwhile, Jason, a teen out for blood, has just learned his girlfriend is cheating on him. When Jason crosses paths with Classified Research’s experiment, tension will hit a breaking point – with ZIP caught in the middle.

Black and white comic book art. In panel one, a man with dark hair (Pinstripe) flashes an evil grin to a woman in a lab coat wearing glasses (Dr Giffert) and a man with grey hair wearing a suit (Dogsobdy). Pinstripe says: "Well mate, looks as if having friends in high places has its uses after all, doesn't it? In the next panel, Dr Giffert looks into the distance and says "Yes... nevertheless I feel we should get on with things. I'll start the recording equipment and we'll begin the experiment." In the next panel, someone yells "FIRE!" and a laser canon mounted on a black van shoots a beam high into the air.
